A new garden!

Spring is definitely here and I thought that it was time that I revived The Bee Friendly Garden blog. It is a very long time since I posted and a lot has happened in that time – I have a new garden now and I am looking forward to sharing with you the creation of a new Bee Friendly Garden.

The new garden was very, very overgrown when I bought the bungalow. I have heard from others in the village that the previous owner used to keep the garden immaculate. Unfortunately, it was clear that this was some years ago and the garden had fallen into a very sorry state. However, when I looked round, I could see the potential and I was very excited at the prospect of creating a new garden.

I brought with me to the new house 400 pots of plants from my previous garden! They took some looking after in last year’s hot summer.

Today’s post is about what I have been doing today – planting snowdrops very kindly given to my by my lovely neighbours Mary & Tony.

Last autumn, I removed (well, not me personally, but, a local aboriculturalist!) a Thuja hedge from the side of the house and exposed a lovely large border. I started to plant the border up last autumn with some of the shrubs and trees that I had brought with me together with crocus and daffodils.

This was the border when I moved in – a rather large hedge taking up all the water in the soil!

Here it was today – daffodils and crocuses out and snowdrops planted ready for the bees next spring!

And finally – my favourite Pulmonaria -‘Blue Ensign’
